One Gate. Two Hollywood Legends. Thirty Years of Silence.
Tucked behind a private gate near Brentwood Park sits a 1939 Georgian estate with a biography most addresses would envy. It was first owned in the early 1950s by director and producer Edwin Knopf, brother of publishing legend Alfred Knopf.
In the 1950s it passed to Deborah Kerr — star of From Here to Eternity and The King and I — who lived there with her husband, writer Peter Viertel. And in those same years, a young Audrey Hepburn rented the home from Kerr while conquering Hollywood — the era of Roman Holiday and Sabrina.
The home then stayed quietly with one family for more than three decades. In June 2025 it surfaced for the first time since — and the world noticed.
Jennifer Montague, of Sotheby's International Realty's Beverly Hills brokerage, led the sale alongside The Larson Burmester Group — placing a Hollywood crown jewel with its next caretaker for $9.4 million.
